Alienation

We marched from caves and reached skyscrapers,

Among those bricks and roads, we feel so far from home.

The frustrated dry clouds do not cry for any of us

We now forget how to smile back to the skies

Tall stands the civilization blocking away air, suffocating us

draining out colors of our souls, evaporating! Leaving us gray

Cars drive fast, faster than they should, too fast for us

The leaves no longer whisper to our souls, reminding us of life

We stand quietly frightened, unable to speak

Unable to comprehend, to protest

People talk loudly, argue intensely

we no longer hear the wind howl

Only angry horns, choking Earth’s breeze

We weep, for the tree massacres,

And the flowers growing too weary, surrendering

As we stand quietly frightened, unable to speak..

  1. Beautiful Alia. Im a big fan of poetry. ive posted a few of my original compositions on my blog.do check em out 🙂 thanks

  2. I liked your poem and blog very much. Nostalgic overtones, I have a few of those myself. Things are far removed from the way they were when I was younger and it saddens me at times and I worry for my grandchildren at others. I long for that simpler life. Blessings 🙂

  3. Your words capture the emotion of bewilderment and sadness at the loss what was so good amongest the frenzy of modern life. From the comments above, I gather that English is your second language. Let me just say, if I could write poetry as good as this in English, my native language, I would be very happy. In another language I would be ecstatic!
Thank you for your kind comment on my blog, I look forward to dropping back in here and seeing more of yoru work.

  4. Oh wow! I almost felt breathless at the end. Your words are very powerful – you write beautifully! I will be checking back in the future. Thanks for sharing.

  5. This is a powerful piece, Alia! I really like it. The metaphors and images you chose fit perfectly to describe the alienation that most of us feel. Great piece! Keep at it!! … Write more, write often. 🙂 … Lately, you haven’t blogged. lol …

I like this line: “Tall stands the civilization blocking away air, suffocating us

draining out colors of our souls, evaporating! Leaving us gray.”

    Excellent imagery!
